Question: Can the landlord charge me more because I have a pet?

Answer: Yes. The landlord may charge extra rent and/or a nonrefundable pet fee in exchange for allowingyou to keep a pet in the apartment.

Furthermore, the landlord may charge more for some types or sizes of pets than for others: or, my prohibit pets completely.

Any agreement you have with the landlord about pets should be included in the written lease.

Unfortunately, in this market, you just can’t find a buyer who’ll pay a reasonable price for your home. Are you thinking your only choices are to keep it or sell it for a loss? Well, maybe you could rent it but that sounds like a dangerous time consuming effort. You’d still really like to sell it but you sure don’t want to go another year without any money coming in and plenty going out. What do you do?

Spring Is Right Around The Corner

Spring is around the corner and if you are thinking of selling your home, it’s time to take a fresh look at the exterior. A buyer’s first impression of your home starts with the outside appearance. A neat outside appearance sends a message that your home has been well-maintained. Now is the time to take care of a few details:

Add fresh pine straw or mulch to landscaped areas
Plant flower beds with seasonal flowers such as pansies or violas that will hold up well during the season’s wide range of temperatures
Paint your front door and freshen up any tired looking outside paint on shutters or outside furniture
Pressure wash the areas of your home that need cleaning
Consider investing in new exterior light fixtures if yours are outdated and make sure the light bulbs work
Make sure the garage area is neat and tidy – especially if it faces the street
Put away bikes, outside toys or anything that will distract a potential buyer
Don’t forget the backyard or your patio or deck. While it may not be time to use those areas until temps warm up, you want those areas to be clean and neat. Consider putting a flower pot with seasonal flowers at the back door or on your deck or patio.
Throw away your old, worn welcome mats and buy new ones
